Automated EDI and JDE Workflows for Renaissance Global Logistics

See how Renaissance Global Logistics leveraged EDI2XML’s managed EDI service to automate EDIFACT document exchanges directly in Oracle JDE. This project improved operational efficiency, ensured compliance with trading partners, and removed the burden of manual EDI management from the IT team, enabling the company to focus on moving goods efficiently.

About Renaissance Global Logistics: Logistics and Supply Chain Operations Overview

Renaissance Global Logistics is a division of James Group. Based in Detroit, the company has a long-standing history in transportation, warehousing, kitting, sub-assembly, and inventory management. With roots dating back to the early 1970s, the company has grown into a respected logistics partner known for flexibility, reliability, and deep expertise in serving complex, fast-moving industries. Their operations require timely, accurate data exchange and a dependable digital infrastructure that supports the continuous movement of goods.

The EDI Challenge: Why Renaissance Global Logistics Needed Automated EDI – JDE Integration

When Renaissance Global Logistics approached EDI2XML, they needed a more reliable and fully automated way to exchange X12 and EDIFACT documents with their trading partner. Their internal team relied on Oracle JD Edwards (JDE) for core business processes but did not have a streamlined method to send and receive EDI documents directly from the ERP system.

The challenges were clear:

  • EDI messages from Trading Partners (TP) needed to flow into JDE without manual steps.
  • Outbound messages from JDE had to be transformed and delivered to TP in the correct EDI format.
  • Communication required a secure connection via site-to-site VPN
  • All interactions had to align with Trading Partner’s strict technical requirements.
  • The team wanted to avoid installing additional software on their internal systems.
  • Real-time notifications into EDI activity were essential.

Renaissance Global Logistics needed a solution that would fit smoothly into their existing JDE environment, support ongoing operational demands, and remove the burden of EDI management from their internal IT staff.

Why Renaissance Global Logistics Selected EDI2XML as Their Managed EDI Provider

What mattered most to the client was experience, stability, and the ability to deliver a fully managed EDI service. EDI2XML offered all three. With over 25 years of experience in EDI projects, our team understands the complexity of EDIFACT workflows and the stringent expectations of various partners.

Renaissance Global Logistics valued that EDI2XML:

  • Takes full responsibility of the integration process
  • Configures, tests, and maintains all data flows in both directions
  • Manages VAN connectivity and communication with the trading partner
  • Provides continuous support and monitoring after go-live
  • Handles transformations, mapping, and JDE Z-Table interactions without requiring software installation on the customer’s systems

This combination allowed the client to keep full control of their ERP environment while delegating all EDI responsibilities to a trusted EDI service provider.

EDI2XML’s Solution: Cloud-Based EDIFACT Integration With JDE

EDI2XML delivered a cloud-based, fully managed integration that automated both incoming and outgoing EDIFACT document flows between TP and JDE. The project covered six documents:

Incoming (from TP to JDE of Renaissance Global Logistics):

  • DELJIT (EDI 862) – Shipping Schedule
  • DELFOR (EDI 830) – Planning Schedule / Forecast
  • APERAK (EDI 824) – Application Advice
  • RECADV (EDI 861) – Receiving Advice

Outgoing (from JDE to TP):

  • DESADV (EDI 856) – Despatch Advice
  • INVRPT (EDI 846) – Inventory Report

How the Integration Works: Automated Incoming and Outgoing EDIFACT Flows

  1. Inbound: Every 15 minutes, the EDI2XML processor automatically retrieves incoming EDI documents from the VAN mailbox, acknowledges them, when necessary, transforms them, and inserts the data into the appropriate Z-Tables in JDE. Email notifications keep the client informed of each processed file.
  2. Outbound: For outbound documents, the system connects to JDE on the same schedule, identifies eligible transactions, extracts them, converts them into the correct EDIFACT format based on TP’s specifications, and sends them to the VAN mailbox. The process includes marking each record as processed to avoid duplicates.
  3. Security & Transparency: All communication runs through a secure site-to-site VPN tunnel, ensuring encrypted and stable connectivity between EDI2XML and the client’s JDE environment.

Implementation Approach and Collaboration with Renaissance Global Logistics

The integration followed a structured and collaborative process:

  1. Detailed analysis of TP’s EDI specs and JDE Z-Tables
  2. Secure VPN configuration
  3. VAN connectivity setup and testing
  4. Data mapping and business rules configuration
  5. Full-cycle testing with Renaissance Global Logistics and TP
  6. Verification of both incoming and outgoing flows
  7. Go-live deployment and transition to continuous monitoring

Strong support from the Renaissance Global Logistics IT team and timely coordination with trading partners helped keep the project on track.

A Scalable and Reliable EDIFACT Integration for JDE

This project shows how a fully managed EDI service can eliminate daily operational friction and allow logistics teams to focus on what they do best. With a secure, cloud-based EDI-to-JDE integration in place, Renaissance Global Logistics now moves data with the same precision and consistency as the goods they manage.

Key Outcomes for Renaissance Global Logistics After the EDI Integration

The integration transformed a manual, error-prone process into a strategic asset.

  • 100% Automated Workflow: Eliminated manual handling, saving hours and reducing errors.
  • Guaranteed Compliance & Delivery: All documents meet partner specs and are exchanged reliably.
  • Enhanced Operational Visibility: Real-time alerts provide peace of mind and audit trails.
  • IT Resource Liberation: Internal staff are freed from EDI maintenance for higher-value projects.
  • Scalable Foundation: The robust cloud infrastructure supports adding new partners with ease.
  • Proactive Error Detection & Data Validation: Validation checks, enabled by the Magic xpi integration, catch and resolve data issues before transactions are sent, avoiding rejections and downstream disruptions.
