Today, with all the advancements made with BI technologies, companies are able to analyze all of their data quickly in order to PREDICT what\u2019s to come (predictive-type of analytics). This difference is HUGE. Companies are able to anticipate problems, industry changes or sales opportunities, giving them a big competitive advantage in their industry.<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Here_are_the_4_stages_of_Business_Analytics\"><\/span>Here are the 4 stages of Business Analytics:<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<ol style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<li><strong>Descriptive<\/strong>: This type of analytics typically answers the question <em>\u201cWhat happened?\u201d<\/em> It entails analyzing a data set and describing its features and characteristics. This is mainly used to describe and characterize past events. Managers produce summary statements of these data sets.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<ol style=\"text-align: justify;\" start=\"2\">\n<li><strong>Diagnostic<\/strong>: Managers use diagnostic analytics to answer the question <em>\u201cWhy?\u201d<\/em> or <em>\u201cWhy did that happen?\u201d<\/em> They focus on a known outcome and try to determine the factors and events that contributed to that event. Therefore, it is when something had already happened, for example the company lost a big customer, and they are looking to find out why this happened so that it doesn\u2019t happen again.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<ol style=\"text-align: justify;\" start=\"3\">\n<li><strong>Predictive<\/strong>: <em>\u201cWhat is likely to happen?\u201d <\/em>This type of analytics is about getting real insights to predict what will happen if you make a change or keep things the way they are. It\u2019s about using data from your database as well as elsewhere (perhaps information collected from social media) and detecting trends and patterns to help predict future outcomes.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<ol style=\"text-align: justify;\" start=\"4\">\n<li><strong>Prescriptive<\/strong>: Prescriptive analytics is what many companies, using BI, strive for. It\u2019s all about understanding what to do to maximize good outcomes and prevent bad ones from happening. Essentially, advanced BI technology is able to provide automated decisions, which are defined through the analytics process.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Most companies today are only using descriptive analytics.
